Living in a larger body can feel like a never-ending battle with diet culture, creeping up in the most unexpected moments. It can be overwhelming, draining, and leave you feeling like you're going at it solo.
A trip to the store, an average day at work, dating, or going to a yoga class can bring a flood of messages about how your body "should" be. From friends and family to healthcare providers, everyone seems to have an opinion, so it’s no wonder that loving and respecting your body can feel like an uphill climb. The struggle can leave you feeling wiped out, stressed, and like you're on an island.
One of the best approaches to counteract the harmful messaging that influences our lives is to seek out a supportive group. From both my lived and professional experience, I have found that people from minority groups benefit the most from having a space where they can be among others who understand their perspective.
That's why I'm thrilled to introduce a group that provides precisely that. Members will have the opportunity to provide assistance to one another and discuss a wide range of topics, some of which include:
How anti-fatness and thin-supremacy have impacted them and their relationship with food and their bodies,
how to challenge and navigate harmful messaging related to their bodies both in personal, professional, and patient-provider relationships,
how to honor and respect their body even when they don’t like it,
and how to be confident in their relationship with food when society is telling them how, when, and what they should eat.
The body image journey is like a marathon, not a sprint, and it's okay to stumble and fall along the way. I'm not here to sell you false promises or quick fixes. Instead, let's walk this path together, knowing that every little step counts.
My approach to nutrition counseling is centered around a weight-neutral, Health at Every Size (HAES™) perspective.
I devote my practice to fostering a guilt-free relationship with food, body, and movement, with specialities in eating disorders, disordered eating, body image, and intuitive eating with clients of all ages, genders, and backgrounds.
Please note:
I do limit virtual group capacity to a maximum of 6 participants to ensure everyone receives an equal opportunity to share experiences and receive the adequate support they need to learn these new skills.
I also require all individuals joining the group to have an outpatient provider, such as a therapist or dietitian, who they are actively seeing. This is because group dynamics can trigger various emotions, thoughts, and feelings in individuals, and having a separate outlet to process them is important.
